It’s a way to make ends meet. Vendors dodging in and out of passing cars, at intersections or stop lights, to sell a finger or a hand of banana, all in the name of this new “Healthy Peel” campaign. A ripe banana has been said to have health benefits like, aiding in depressions, fighting ulcers, the urge to smoke and also curing a hang over. I wondered how much bananas would this guy need to sell to pay rent, buy food for the day much less the week, or pay for health care. The eat a banana a day campaign was set up to encourage Jamaicans to eat more fresh produce, and proceeds from the sale will help support a UTech scholarship fund. My first thought was how can this young man benefit from such a fund, and if he could not, would his children ever be eligible?
